Biography
Composer | Sound Designer | Developer | Performer | Musicologist
Born in 1989 in Kosovo (former Yugoslavia), Fehmiju began playing the accordion at the age of eight. At eleven, he entered the Mimar Sinan Istanbul Fine Arts University State Conservatory, majoring in violin. Alongside his instrumental studies, he pursued composition from an early age and was accepted into the university’s composition department in 2007. He pursued a double major in composition and violin, and later earned a master's degree in musicology from the same institution in 2014.
Between 2012 and 2014, he served as a music theory lecturer at the conservatory. In 2015, he moved to Japan to study computer music composition as a research student at Kunitachi College of Music (国立音楽大学大学院博士後期課程). In 2016, he began his doctoral studies in the university’s Department of Sonology, earning his PhD (博士号) in Computer Music Composition in March 2020.
Fehmiju has participated in workshops led by esteemed musicians such as Toshio Hosokawa, Irino Reiko, Yoriaki Matsudaira, Kiyoshi Furukawa, Rai Takayuki, Domenico Nordio, Atilla Aldemir, Edward Sielicki, Jan Risberg, and Gürer Aykal.
In 2010, he joined the Turkish national chorus at the World Choir Competition in China, winning three gold medals. He received second prize at the 2012 Ayvalik International Composition Competition and first prize at the 2018 MIAM Composition Competition in Istanbul.
His works have been featured at international festivals including the 2016 Seoul International Computer Music Festival, the 2018 New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival, the 2018 Ohrid Summer Festival in North Macedonia, and the 2024 DAM Festival in Kosovo.
Since spring 2019, Fehmiju has been working in Sound R&D at KORG Inc. He is also the Japan-side project leader, developer and product manager of the Korg Fisa Suprema project. He has been a volunteer member of the bFaaaP (Barrier-Free Assistant as a Pedal for Piano) project since 2019.
Currently based in Japan, Fehmiju continues to pursue research, composition, and performance as a freelance artist.
